22 May 2019

Robert Katz advises corporates and financial institutions on high-profile M&A transactions.

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Robert Katz has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Corporate Department and member of the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practices. Katz has significant experience advising clients on both negotiated and unsolicited public and private M&A transactions, including tender and exchange offers, leveraged buyouts, takeover defense strategies, joint ventures, divestitures, and cross-border transactions.

“Rob is a widely respected and accomplished M&A practitioner who is extremely knowledgeable in a range of industries that are very active in the current deal landscape,” said Marc Jaffe, Global Chair of Latham’s Corporate Department. “He has a deep experience base advising corporates and financial institutions on sophisticated M&A transactions, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our expanding practice in New York.”

Katz has represented corporate clients in M&A transactions across a variety of industries, including telecommunications, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, technology, and media and entertainment.

“Rob’s experience advising public company clients, in particular, on high-stakes transactions is a great enhancement to both our New York office and global platform as we remain steadfastly committed to evolving with our clients’ needs,” said Michael Dillard, Global Chair of Latham’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. “Rob is one of four M&A partners who have joined our New York office in 2019, and his arrival adds to the depth of talent that we are committed to providing our clients through the continued expansion of our premier Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in New York and globally.”

“Rob’s practice is a perfect fit for our expanding Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in New York, and we are excited to welcome him to the firm,” said Michèle Penzer, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in New York. “His arrival marks another step forward in our continual effort to meet the needs of clients who are looking to execute their most sophisticated deals.”

“I am excited to join Latham’s premier Mergers & Acquisitions Practice,” said Katz. “The firm has an excellent reputation for its deep industry knowledge, and that, combined with Latham’s global, integrated platform will be of tremendous value to my clients.”

Latham earlier this year announced that Justin Hamill, Alexander Johnson, and David Beller joined the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practices in the firm’s New York office.

Katz joins Latham & Watkins from Shearman & Sterling in New York. He received his JD from Fordham University School of Law and his BA from University at Albany.
