PARTNER MOVES - King & Spalding Hires Asia-Pacific Arbitration Specialist Peter Chow as Partner

30 Sep 2019

King & Spalding has added international arbitration specialist Peter Chow as a partner. Chow joins from Squire Patton Boggs, where he led the international dispute resolution practice in Asia-Pacific.

Chow focuses on complex arbitrations across Asia-Pacific, with a particular emphasis on disputes arising out of large energy and construction projects. He has represented clients in some of the largest arbitrations in Asia involving multi-billion-dollar claims.

As a bilingual Mandarin speaker from Singapore, Chow also focuses on Chinese commercial disputes. He sits on the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and the ICC (Hong Kong) arbitrator nomination committee and serves as the chair of the Energy & Resources Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. Among his accolades, he was last year named in China Business Law Journal’s “A-List”, and Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific has recognized Chow as a “litigation star.”

“Peter has an impressive record of handling sophisticated disputes across the Asia-Pacific region, with standout experience in top-level China-related arbitration,” said Edward Kehoe, co-head of the firm’s International Arbitration practice. “As Chinese companies become more active internationally in areas such as energy and construction, cross-border disputes are increasing. In Peter, we have a seasoned arbitration counsel who is based in the region and speaks Mandarin. He is perfectly placed to assist clients in disputes relating to Greater China, and across Asia.”

“My specialist practice complements King & Spalding’s stellar international arbitration and energy practices in Asia,” said Chow. “They share with me a real focus on large, complex energy and construction disputes, and I’m really looking forward to bringing my practice to their platform.”

“Peter is an excellent addition to our Asia-Pacific disputes team. We’ve seen him on the other side of our cases and have been able to appreciate his talents close-up,” added Kelly Malone, Office Managing Partner in Singapore. “He will give us a great new edge for China-related work in particular.”

In addition to Chow, Peter Brabant also recently joined the Singapore-based Trial & Global Disputes practice as counsel. Brabant is an international arbitration and investigations lawyer who has advised on matters relating to corruption, fraud, internal controls, tax and cybersecurity, with an emphasis on the energy and resources, construction and banking and finance sectors across Asia. He most recently worked as a corporate counsel at Chevron, where he was on secondment from Jones Day.
