Identifying and mapping leading corporate tax associates

The candidate pool for corporate tax associates from one of the top 50 UK or US firms in London is c.400 individuals. This breaks down by post-qualification experience (PQE) as follows:

- 40% are 0-4 PQE

- 25% are 5-7, and

- 35% are 8+ PQE

Competition for corporate tax hires

Hiring in the corporate tax market is consistent with c40 hires at the top 50 UK and US firms in London. Predominantly, these hires were made by c.25 law firms and, of these firms, c.50% are US firms.  

Profile of candidates hired

To the end of June 2019 there have been just over 20 corporate tax hires:

- These have been made by 17 firms, 11 of which were US firms. 

- 70% of hires were at the 0-4 PQE level, which makes it the most competitive segment of the market.

- 60% of hires at the 0-4 PQE level were made by US firms. 

- 50% came from UK/Global firms, 35% came from US firms, 15% came from Australia or
in-house roles.

- Excluding hires from overseas, 30% moved to firms with a higher pay scale, 30% moved to firms with a lower pay scale and 30% moved to firms that had a similar pay scale.
