The hires will expand the firm’s banking, tax and corporate capabilities in the Netherlands.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that its Dutch presence will grow significantly with the hire of three new partners in Amsterdam, all of whom will arrive at the firm on 1 April. The hires will expand the firm’s banking, tax and corporate capabilities in the Netherlands.

David Shearer joins the firm from Dentons Amsterdam, where he was a partner in the firm’s corporate and M&A practice. He advises on a wide range of corporate matters, with a particular focus on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and project development and financing. David has significant experience in a number of sectors, including oil & gas, renewable and conventional power, natural resources and infrastructure. He has acted for a range of corporate clients, oil & gas majors, power developers, trading companies and financial investors.

Robert Jean Kloprogge arrives at Simmons & Simmons from AKD Amsterdam and prior to this, he spent three years in New York with Stibbe. Robert Jean typically advises asset managers, investment funds and financial institutions on fund formations, M&A transactions, restructurings, share and debt issuances, banking and finance transactions and structured finance transactions. He also acts on behalf of these parties in tax investigations and litigations. Also joining from AKD is Hans Galavazi, who has been a tax partner with major firms for many years. Hans is a lawyer specialising in the taxation aspects of M&A, corporate reorganisations, corporate finance and private equity transactions and also advises a number of large German multinational companies. He also assists clients in tax investigations and acts for taxpayers in tax disputes and litigations.

Ivo van Dijk joins the firm from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Amsterdam where he worked within the firm’s finance practice, focusing on banking and structured finance products. His experience covers a range of matters from general corporate financings, to leveraged buy outs and real estate transactions. At Simmons he will continue working for large (international and domestic) financial institutions.

Commenting on this string of significant hires, Dutch country head René van Eldonk said: “Welcoming three new partners to Simmons’ Dutch office is a hugely significant step in the achievement of our ambitious growth plan in the region. David, Robert Jean and Ivo join our other recent hire, funds partner Iris Dingemans, who joined the firm in January. This spate of recent hires demonstrates our ongoing commitment to growing our offering to clients across Europe.”.
