08 Apr 2021

Dentons, the world's largest law firm, has announced that partner Fermín Garbayo will join the Madrid office in April 2021 as Head of the Energy practice in Spain.

Following the recent recruitment of Litigation and Dispute Resolution partner Jose María Garcia Santos, this new signing reinforces the commitment of the global firm to grow and strengthen strategic practice and sector groups in Spain in order to consolidate its position among the leading business law firms in the market.

Jabier Badiola, Spain Managing Partner at Dentons, commented, ""The recruitment of an outstanding professional such as Fermín Garbayo to the Firm is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and will support our efforts to offer the best quality advice to both national and international energy companies in Spain.”

Fermin Garbayo focuses on the acquisition and financing of renewable energy projects, both green and brown field, as well as in the negotiation of construction contracts, power purchase agreements (PPAs) and O&M contracts. Throughout his professional career, he has advised some of the main Spanish electricity companies on contractual matters to support the diversification of their product offering, as well as on insolvency and litigation.  He also advises national and international funds on the acquisition and development of energy and infrastructure projects, mainly in Spain.

He was previously a partner at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, where he led the opening of its offices in London (2007) and Lisbon (2009).

Fermín Garbayo also commented on his move, ""Joining the largest law firm in the world, which is also a dynamic firm committed to its clients, will allow me to take part in projects of the highest level.  This was undoubtedly a decisive factor in my taking this new challenge in my career.”
