Simmons & Simmons has announced that Marc Fèvre is to join its London office on 12 April as a partner in the firm’s energy, natural resources & infrastructure group.
Marc joins Simmons from Baker McKenzie, where he was global co-head of renewable energy. He specialises in helping clients with the opportunities and challenges arising from the energy transition and the drive for sustainability and decarbonisation. This includes the sourcing of clean energy under corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s), improving sustainability across the supply chain and strategic legal advice for investing in emerging technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture/ storage. In 2019, Marc was named as Legal 500’s projects lawyer of the year.
Marc advises clients on ‘first-in-kind’ greenfield energy and infrastructure projects and secondary market transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors in developed and emerging markets. He is bilingual in French and English, having lived and worked in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, where he continues to work in addition to key global markets such as Africa. Marc has also spent several years working in Japan which has given him a particular focus on supporting Japanese-based clients investing in the energy and infrastructure sector internationally.
Marc works with developers/corporate sponsors and financial investors, as well as lenders and government authorities, giving him comprehensive experience in supporting clients on all sides of the project equation. His recent transactions include advising a large multinational pharmaceutical company on the procurement, drafting and negotiation of five virtual PPAs to match the electricity demand of its entire European business and advising the sponsors and project company on the development and financing of the Belgrade Waste to Energy PPP Project.
On welcoming Marc to the firm, Energy, Natural Resources & Infrastructure Group head Iain Duncan commented: “Marc’s arrival is a significant move for the firm as we seek to build on our work in the energy transition space and acting for infrastructure investors. Marc meets both of these criteria with his corporate PPA and renewables experience, and is particularly unique with his extensive track record of acting for corporates in the TMT and Health & Life Sciences sectors on their energy sourcing needs”.
On joining Simmons, Marc said: “I am delighted to be joining a leading international projects team, with a strong team ethic that can bring the best of the firm to its clients world-wide. Simmons & Simmons has a strong sector focus on clients who are investing in, and financing, the new technologies and infrastructure required for the energy transition, as well as helping them understand the complexities of ESG investing. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to help our clients take advantage of these opportunities, post-COVID-19 economic stimulus plans and meeting their sustainability goals."".
