King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) Tokyo office has a new partner Madoka Hashimoto on board. Leveraging his extensive experience and wide client recognition in finance, capital markets, and general corporate matters, Madoka Hashimoto will work closely with all other partners in the Tokyo office to enhance the service capabilities of the team.

Prior to joining KWM, Madoka Hashimoto worked in Atsumi & Sakai, Orrick Tokyo Office, and Blakemore & Mitsuki for years. He is highly experienced in handling such legal matters as factoring, disposal of non-performing assets, loans, bond issuance, formation of funds, asset securitization, and response to financial regulation in Japan. In addition, he has a strong track record of advising on corporate matters involving domestic and international trade, IT, and personal information protection. He is also a distinguished professor of advanced judicial studies at the Osaka University Law School. Madoka Hashimoto joined the KWM Tokyo office at April 5.

As the branch of the only Chinese law firm capable of practicing Japanese law independently in Japan, KWM Tokyo office consists of 7 partners and 18 associates. With its continuous expansion, the office has advised clients investing in Japan and China on corporate M&A, banking and financing, private equity and funds, securities, competition, trade and regulation, labour, dispute resolution and litigation, bankruptcy, intellectual property, etc. Taking the unique advantage of its global multi-jurisdiction platform and China practices, KWM Tokyo office also provides strong support in an all-around way for Japanese clients seeking business opportunities in Japan or wishing to expand into other markets.

Madoka Hashimoto said, “I am delighted to join KWM, a leading international law firm based in Asia. The Tokyo team makes concerted efforts to maintain a steady momentum of growth. I am honoured to be part of it and work with the team. Although the Covid-19 pandemic is still under way, I am looking forward to meeting and working with more regional partners and clients in the future. I hope to provide you with my professional support.”

“Welcome Madoka Hashimoto to join us! His addition is a great help for us to expand our practices in investment, financing and financial products. And his expertise in corporate law will strengthen our capabilities in global collaboration,” said partners in Tokyo office, “In 2020, despite the impact of the pandemic, we still achieved steady growth with the joint efforts of all partners and staff in the office. Additionally, we also developed more clients and business opportunities together with regional offices, including China offices. As the Japanese legal market is very special, we need to act timely according to the development of the market. In the future, KWM Tokyo office will continue to rely on the firm’s unique global platform and presence in local and international markets to provide first-class legal services for more Japanese clients, helping them seize the right market opportunities and realize their business strategies.”
