Bär & Karrer Advises The Kusnacht Practice on the Acquisition of a Controlling Stake in Double Check

The Kusnacht Practice AG, a portfolio company of the Capital 36 group of companies, has acquired 67% of the share capital of Double Check Ltd, the Swiss Academic Center for Checkups and Second Opinions.
 
Bär & Karrer acted as legal and tax advisor to the Capital 36 group. The team included Mariel Hoch, Sora Meyer, Manuel Baumberger (all M&A), Markus Schott, Michelle Merz (both Health Care Law/Regulatory), Susanne Schreiber, Michael Abegg (both Tax), Thomas Stoltz (Notarial Services) as well as Till Spillmann and Adrian Koller (both Financing).

Taylor Wessing advises McLaren on the sale of a £150m portfolio of six student housing developments

International law firm Taylor Wessing has acted for McLaren on the sale by way of forward funding of a portfolio valued at approximately £150m of six student housing developments to a new investment vehicle owned by a group of German pension funds and managed by Hines, a US-based privately owned global real estate investment firm.The portfolio comprises six development sites in Cambridge, Oxford, Kingston, Aberdeen and two locations in Brighton, and will deliver more than 1,100 beds in total.

BLP acts for King’s Cross Central on over £750m of financings in 18 months

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has advised King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP) led by Argent (as the development/asset manager for the King’s Cross Central estate) in excess of £750m of facilities secured against the King’s Cross Central estate. The latest facility, a development loan from Helaba Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen completed in May 2016 and will be used to fund, amongst others, the development of Google’s new 180,000 sq ft office in the northern phase of the King’s Cross scheme.

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised S P Setia on a A$101 million acquisition of a Telstra Exchange site in Melbourne’s central CBD.
The deal is a record breaking price for a Melbourne CBD land purchase with the 400sqm site in a prime location overlooking Carlton Gardens and fronting both Exhibition and La Trobe Streets.
 

Mapletree secures largest UK real estate acquisition

Leading global law firm, Baker & McKenzie has advised Singapore's Mapletree Investments on the acquisition of the 79 hectare Green Park in Reading, Berkshire one of Europe's leading business parks. The transaction is the largest regional business park acquisition in the UK in 2015/16.

The Baker & McKenzie team was led by London-based Head of Real Estate Stephen Turner, together with Corporate Partner James Burdett and Tax Partner James Smith.

Herbert Smith Freehills Paris LLP has recently advised Meridiam, a leading global investor and asset manager specialising in public and community infrastructure, on financing for the Senergy plant in Senegal, the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in West Africa. With 30 MWc in nominal capacity, the plant will be located near Méouane, in the Thiès region, northwest of Dakar.
