Appellate hearing: GEMA versus Filmstarts and moviepilot

[Berlin, 2017-03-13] On 19 April 2017, the Berlin Court of Appeal is due to hear the appeal in GEMA versus Webedia GmbH – a publisher of leading entertainment brands such as Filmstarts, Moviepilot, GameStar, GamePro and IGN. In March 2016, the publishing group, whose focus is on digital media, contested GEMA’s first-instance action before the Berlin Regional Court for royalties for the public showing of film trailers containing music.

Storytel acquires Danish publisher People's Press

Storytel AB (publ) entered into an agreement on 1 March 2017 regarding the acquisition of Denmark’s fourth largest publisher – People's Press. The consideration amounted to SEK 97 million on a debt-free basis.

People's Press has an annual turnover of about SEK 130 million and a 2016 pre-tax profit of SEK 10.5 million. The acquisition does not include the music side of the business.

Silvadata and Its Shareholders - Sale of Silvadata to Trimble Group

We represented Silvadata Oy and its 64 shareholders in the sale of the company to the US-based technology group Trimble Inc. and its Finnish subsidiary Trimble Finland Oy. The largest shareholder of the company before the transaction was The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK). In the transaction, Trimble acquired 100% of the shares in the company.

We advised Gutsy Animations in negotiations concerning the production of new Moomin TV-series

We were advising Gutsy Animations Oy in complex negotiations concerning the production of new animated Moomin TV-series. The Moomins were created by internationally known author and illustrator Tove Jansson and nowadays Moomin Characters holds the official Moomin copyrights and Bulls Presstjänst is the partner in licensing. In all, nine books, five picture books and 73 comic strips stories were published between 1945 - 1993 with the addition of numerous television series, films and even a theme park Moomin World.

The firm's corporate experts worked closely with preferred US firm, Thompson Hine LLP, on the acquisition of the infrared optics specialist.

The corporate team from independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has advised photonics technology business Gooch & Housego PLC (G&H) on the acquisition of StingRay Optics.

Founded in 2004, StingRay Optics is a premier designer, manufacturer and supplier of world-class infrared optical assemblies, and this acquisition enhances G&H’s strategic objective of diversification into the aerospace and defence sector.

De Gaulle Fleurance & Associés assisted the e-health company DietSensor in the simultaneous implementation of its connected nutrition scanner for patients suffering from diabetes, in France and in the United States.

Our advice and assistance, throughout 2016, consisted in helping DietSensor validate its regulatory strategy including from the perspective of the rules governing medical devices, health personal data, medical practice and the protection of consumers. We also assisted DietSensor in the design and drafting of the general terms of use and privacy policy of the Internet platform connected to DietSensor’s nutrition scanner.
