Hogan Lovells Advises Republic of Ecuador in US$313 Million Financing for Hydroelectric Project

Hogan Lovells advised the Republic of Ecuador in the negotiation of a US$313 million facility agreement that was executed by the Export-Import Bank of China (Chexim) and the Ministry of Finance of Ecuador. Under the agreement, Chexim granted a loan to be used for the construction of the 270 MW Minas-San Francisco hydroelectric generation project in Ecuador by contractor Harbin Electric International with an approximate cost of US$470 million.

Ashurst advises Serinus Energy on US$60 million EBRD financing for Tunisia

Ashurst acted as international counsel to Serinus Energy Inc, an international upstream oil and gas exploration and production company, on the signature of two loan agreements in the aggregate amount of US$60 million with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The financing will assist Serinus Energy in funding the capital programme being planned for its recently acquired oil and gas fields in Tunisia.

Addleshaw Goddard advises John Laing on wind farm deal

The Leeds office of international law firm Addleshaw Goddard has advised John Laing on a deal that will see a major onshore wind farm delivered.

John Laing, the specialist investor and manager of infrastructure assets, is acting as sole equity provider on the nine turbine facility, which will generate enough energy to power more than 11,000 homes.

The Addleshaw Goddard team, led by legal director Paul Dight, included experts across the business in departments including energy, property, construction, corporate and project finance, planning and tax.

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright advised Banque Misr and National Bank of Egypt as the Mandated Lend Arrangers on the EGP 3 billion (approximately US$441 million) syndicated financing for the Mall of Egypt project developed by Majid Al Futtaim (MAF).

The Mall of Egypt is a landmark development project in Cairo. Opening in 2015, it will be the dominant regional mall servicing Cairo’s metropolis. This development is one of the most ambitious projects in the region to date.
