Ince & Co advises United Arab Shipping Company on a ten containership order with Hyundai Heavy Industries

Ince & Co Middle East LLP (Dubai Branch) recently advised United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) in the preparation and negotiation of bespoke shipbuilding contracts and related documentation in UASC’s largest ever newbuilding order. The order is for ten containerships, along with option agreements for seven further vessels, with Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea.

Arsenal Football Club - recent transfer dealings

Slaughter and May advised The Arsenal Football Club on its transfer dealings over the course of the recent transfer window (which closed at 11pm on 2 September 2013), which included the club record purchase of Germany international Mesut Özil from Real Madrid, the acquisition of Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre, and the transfers of Gervinho to AS Roma, Marouane Chamakh to Crystal Palace, and André Santos to Flamengo.

Herbert Smith Freehills advises Golar on its successful bid for US$213 million Kuwait FSRU contract

Herbert Smith Freehills' Singapore office has advised NASDAQ-listed Golar LNG Limited ("Golar") on its successful bid to provide Kuwait National Petroleum Company ("KNPC") floating storage and regasification ("FSRU") services to support KNPC's LNG import operations at Mina Al Ahmadi. The regasification services will be delivered via a new-build 170,000 cubic metre vessel manufactured by Samsung Heavy Industries.

Eversheds advises international development charity on HQ construction

Global law firm Eversheds has advised international development charity, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) on the construction contract for its new headquarters at 100 London Road, Kingston Upon Thames. The work was carried out on a pro bono basis.

VSO recruits volunteers to combat a wide range of issues across Africa, Asia and the Pacific including climate change, access to health services and access to education.

VSO was advised by Associate Patrick Cooney. Patrick commented:

The Firm recently represented Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (“KKR”) and MerchCap Solutions LLC (“MCS”) in the formation of Maritime Finance Company, a new specialty finance company created to lend to the maritime industry. Maritime Finance will initially be capitalized with $580 million of equity, over 45% of which has been provided by KKR and its affiliates. The balance of the capital was arranged by MCS. The transaction closed on August 19, 2013.

Alan Meneghetti at Clyde advises Flybe on Gatwick slots sale

Clyde & Co LLP has advised Flybe Group plc on a slot exchange contract to transfer 25 pairs of arrival and departure slots at Gatwick airport to easyJet.

Flybe's shareholders voted in support of the exchange on 2 August 2013 which will take place immediately. Flybe will however continue to use the slots for the remainder of the current summer season and the slots will then transfer to easyJet for the 2014 summer season and the 2014/15 winter season.

Freshfields advises on recommended scheme of Daily Mail and General Trust plc (DMGT) on recommended scheme of arrangement

Leading international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised DMGT on the proposal made by RCL for the ordinary voting shares of DMGT not already owned by RCL, to be effected by means of a scheme of arrangement.

If effected, the scheme would result in the holding by RCL of all of the ordinary voting shares of DMGT and in the other current ordinary voting shareholders holding instead 'A' ordinary non-voting shares of DMGT, at the ratio of 112.5 'A' ordinary non-voting shares for every 100 ordinary voting shares.
