Ince Gordon Dadds advises Algoma on the CAD$115 million cancellation of four shipbuilding contracts

International law firm Ince Gordon Dadds has advised Algoma Central Corporation (“Algoma”), a leading provider of marine transportation services, on the cancellation of four shipbuilding contracts with Uljanik and 3Maj Shipyard of Croatia. The contracts related to the construction of self-unloading bulk carriers that were to operate on the Great Lakes.

Clyde & Co advises Majis on its investment deal with Utico

Global law firm Clyde & Co has advised Majis Industrial Services (Majis) on its agreement to invest a substantial amount with Utico, the UAE's leading private utility company. Majis is owned by one of Oman's main sovereign wealth funds and Utico is the largest private utilities developer in the UAE, operating water and captive power generation facilities, and water transmission & distribution networks. The proceeds of the investment agreement are intended to increase Majis and Utico's global participation in the Utilities’ business.

DLA Piper advises The China Navigation Company on acquisition of the bulk shipping activities of Hamburg Süd

DLA Piper has advised The China Navigation Company, a subsidiary of the Swire Group, on its agreement with Hamburg Süd to acquire their bulk shipping business which includes Rudolf A. Oetker (RAO), Furness Withy Chartering and the bulk activities in Alianca Navegacão (Aliabulk).

Closing of the agreement is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2019, subject to regulatory approval. The RAO Tankers business unit is not included in the sale and will remain part of the Hamburg Süd Group for the time being.

Wolf Theiss Tirana advised OTE in the agreement to sell its controlling stake in Telekom Albania

Wolf Theiss Tirana Partner Sokol Nako and Associate Kristaq Profkola acted as legal counsels to OTE Group in a EUR 50 million agreement entered with the Bulgarian company Albania Telecom Invest, for the sale of the OTE's controlling stake in Telekom Albania. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the approval by the competent local authorities and financing, and is expected to be completed within the first half of 2019.

Slaughter and May advised Prudential on its regional bancassurance arrangement with United Overseas Bank

Slaughter and May advised Prudential on the renewal of its regional bancassurance arrangement with United Overseas Bank (UOB) for a term of 15 years. The transaction was announced on 10 January 2019.

Under the arrangement, UOB will distribute Prudential's life insurance products to its consumer banking customer base in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
