Living wage joint venture to deliver 1,000 affordable new homes

Bevan Brittan has acted as adviser to Brighton & Hove City Council in a £120 million joint venture (JV) with Hyde Housing to deliver 1,000 affordable new homes in the local area.

This local authority/housing association joint venture is an exciting model as it offers a structure for two publically focused organisations, that are natural housing development partners, to come together without a procurement process, enabling increased speed of delivery and certainty.

DLA Piper advises Harrison Real Estate Capital on £40 million student accommodation joint venture with Linkcity

DLA Piper has advised real estate private equity firm Harrison Street Real Estate Capital LLC (Harrison Street) on the establishment of a joint venture with LinkCity, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bouygues UK, for the development of a 435 bed student accommodation scheme in Birmingham.

The £40 million development is financed by UBS, with Harrison Street as the majority equity investor and Linkcity as the minority equity investor. Linkcity will develop and operate the site with Bouygues subsidiaries providing facilities management and construction services.

International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised Barratt Developments on 50:50 joint venture (JV) with Swindon Borough Council to develop approximately 250 hectares at Wichelstowe, South of Swindon. The scheme will deliver around 2,670 new homes over the next 20 years and includes two primary schools, a secondary school and an extensive area of open space.

Ashurst advises the University of Tasmania on its new student accommodation partnership

Ashurst has advised the University of Tasmania (UTAS) on its innovative partnership to grant a 30-year licence for 10 of the University's 14 purpose-built accommodation properties to The Spark Living Consortium (Spark Living).

The consortium, which includes DIF and Tetris Capital, has paid an undisclosed amount in return for the future rental revenue of the 14 facilities across the State, totalling 1,800 beds. Spark Living also became the asset manager of the facilities when the deal was finalised in December 2017.
