CMS advises Wells Fargo-led syndicate on EUR 1bn loan to Bank of China

International law firm CMS has advised Wells Fargo as lead arranger of a ten bank syndicate on a EUR1.05bn facility for Bank of China, Luxembourg Branch for refinancing existing debt and general corporate purposes. The facility was originally targeted to be EUR 800m but was increased to accommodate the interest of more lenders than anticipated.

Mayer Brown JSM advises Swire Properties to sell Cityplaza office towers for HK$15 billion (US$1.9 billion)

Mayer Brown JSM advised Swire Properties in an agreement to sell 10 office floors on the High Zone, the commercial area and the car-parking spaces of Cityplaza Three and the entirety of Cityplaza Four (“the property”) in Taikoo Shing on the Hong Kong Island through the sale of the entire equity interest in a property holding entity (“the entity”). It is the second highest commercial real estate acquisition by Mainland Chinese buyers in recent years.

Cadwalader advised BNP Paribas and Citibank, N.A. in connection with Castleton Commodities International LLC’s closing of two credit facilities totaling $3.525 billion. The firm advised BNP Paribas, as global coordinator and administrative agent, on a $3.15 billion borrowing base facility and BNP Paribas, as global coordinator, and Citibank, N.A., as administrative agent, on a $375 million unsecured revolving credit facility.

Ashurst advises Foresight on the acquisition of a portfolio of five operational AD plants in Germany

Ashurst advised the Foresight Group (Foresight), a leading infrastructure and private equity investment manager, on the acquisition of all shares in a portfolio of five operational anaerobic digestion (AD) plants from the Lindhorst Gruppe (Lindhorst), a German family-owned group of companies. With the acquisition, Foresight strengthens its renewable energy portfolio to 20 AD plants in the UK and Germany, generating 154 MW of clean renewable energy.

The U.S. firm builds up its Madrid base following the hire of former DLA co-chair Juan Picon as office head.

Latham & Watkins is set to boost its Madrid office with the hire of long-serving Linklaters real estate partner Rafael Molina.

The move, which comes on the back of Latham’s hire of former DLA Piper global co-chair Juan Picon last November, will be the latest in a string of Magic Circle recruits for the U.S. firm, including Linklaters London financial regulation partner Carl Fernandes, whose hire was announced last month.

Stewarts will launch a new financial crime practice following the hire of 2 Bedford Row white-collar silk Richard Kovalevsky QC as a partner into its London office next month.

Kovalevsky has been practising for 35 years after being called to the Bar in 1983, taking silk two decades later. He will bring the firm’s partner count up to 62 across its two offices in London and Leeds.
