Akin Gump announced that Matthew R. Nicely has joined the firm as a partner in its international trade practice in Washington, D.C. Hogan Lovells has announced that high-profile lawyer Charlie Clayton-Payne has re-joined the transatlantic firm as a partner in its Corporate & Finance practice, based in its Singapore office.

He joins from Harneys in Hong Kong but was previously based in Hogan Lovells' Singapore office (until 27 February 2019) where he was central to the establishment of the banking team. During his time with Hogan Lovells, Charlie also undertook a year-long secondment at Standard Chartered Bank working with the loan structuring and syndication teams.

Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Katherine Goldstein has joined the firm as a partner in its white collar defense and government investigations practice in New York.

Ms. Goldstein has extensive government and private practice experience. She spent nearly a dozen years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), including serving as Chief of SDNY’s prestigious Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force—the first woman to hold that position since the 1980s. Ms. Goldstein comes to Akin Gump from Milbank LLP.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (“Freshfields”) announced that leading litigation attorney Mary Eaton has joined the New York office as a partner to co-head the firm’s Securities and Shareholder Litigation Practice with Meredith Kotler.  She joins from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where she was Chair of the firm’s Business and Corporate Litigation Practice Group. The move comes on the heels of the firm launching a Silicon Valley office with seven partners.

Matt joins DLA Piper from King & Wood Mallesons’ (KWM) Financial Services Dispute Resolution group, where he has spent the past 13 years. During his time at KWM, Matt has built a successful financial services dispute resolution and class actions practice, advising a number of organisations in the financial services sector, including IOOF, Zurich, Westpac and ANZ.
