Shearman & Sterling Advises Sponsors on a $4.3 Billion Coal-Fired Power Project in Indonesia

Shearman & Sterling advised Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) on the development and financing of the approximately US$4.3 billion 2,000MW Central Java greenfield coal-fired power project in Indonesia.  The project, located in Batang Regency in Central Java, will be Indonesia’s first ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant and one of the largest coal-fired power plants in Asia.  The shareholders in BPI are Electric Power Development Co.

Norton Rose Fulbright advises on new nuclear plant at Wylfa Newydd, Wales

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe, Ltd. in relation to its role in the newly created joint venture responsible for construction of Horizon Nuclear Power’s 2,700MW nuclear plant at Wylfa Newydd on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales.

On 20 May 2016, Horizon Wylfa Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., appointed “Menter Newydd”, a specially created unincorporated joint venture, to help deliver the company’s lead nuclear new build project, Wylfa Newydd.

Osborne Clarke advises CHORUS Clean Energy on the purchase of a wind farm in Hürth

International legal practice, Osborne Clarke has advised CHORUS Clean Energy AG on the purchase of a wind farm in Hürth near Cologne. The wind farm includes three wind turbines with an overall capacity of 8.55 megawatts. The seller is the project developer Energiekontor in Bremen. The wind turbines already have been commissioned and are expected to produce 17.5 million kilowatts a year. Through the acquisition CHORUS increases its renewable portfolio to a total of 335 megawatts. The group operates 76 solar and wind farms in five European countries.

CGN Europe Energy entered into a long-term partnership with Inovia Concept Développement

CGN Europe Energy, the French subsidiary of Chinese energy giant, CGN, entered into a long-term partnership with French company Inovia Concept Développement for the development, construction and maintenance of photovoltaic power plants across France, with a combined capacity of over 1 gigawatt (GWh), representing a maximum investment of 1 billion euros in the next five years.

Uponor Corporation and Belkin International, Inc. announced on 25 May 2016 their intention to form a joint venture to pioneer in the development of intelligent water sensing and conservation technology for buildings. The joint venture – to be called Phyn– will have operations in the U.S. and Europe and aims at developing products for the emerging intelligent water market, both for consumers and business customers.

Ashurst advises BP on £400m cash-settled, non-dilutive convertible bond issue

Ashurst advised BP p.l.c. on the issue of £400 million cash-settled, non-dilutive convertible bonds. The bonds, which have a seven-year maturity, were issued by BP Capital Markets p.l.c. and guaranteed by BP p.l.c. Concurrently with the issue of the bonds, a subsidiary of BP p.l.c. purchased cash-settled call options on the ordinary shares of BP p.l.c. to hedge the exposure to pay cash amounts under the bonds upon any exercise of conversion rights. The proceeds of the issue of the bonds were used for general corporate purposes and to buy the cash-settled call options.
