Borenius Advised Vartinoja I Ky and Its Sponsors in Financing of Wind Power Park

Borenius advised Vartinoja I Ky and its sponsors in financing of a wind power park to be constructed in Siikajoki, Finland. The wind park will comprise nine turbines each capable of producing the power of approximately 2,7 MW. The value of the aggregate investment is about 42 million euros.

LähiTapiola (through its wind power fund Tuulitapiola Ky) and TuuliSaimaa Oy are the sponsors of the Vartinoja I Ky fund.

Ashurst advises Dyas on an acquisition of oil & gas assets from Cairn Energy

Ashurst is advising Dyas UK Limited in relation to its acquisition of a ten per cent interest in the Catcher oil and gas assets in the UK North Sea from UK listed Cairn Energy. The acquisition has an effective date of 1 January 2014, and Dyas is paying for the asset by funding Cairn's exploration and development costs in respect of the licences up to a cap of US$182m.

UK Department of Energy & Climate Change - EU Commission's approval for Hinkley Point C State aid package

Slaughter and May advised the UK Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) in relation to the European Commission’s State aid investigation into proposed measures to support EDF Energy’s investment in the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. The European Commission announced on 8 October 2014 that it had formally approved the State aid package, including a Contract for Difference and State guarantee.

CMS advises Tatneft in major investment arbitration against Ukraine

CMS Cameron McKenna in Kyiv has acted for major oil company Tatneft in relation to an international investment arbitration against Ukraine over what was perceived as an illegal takeover of the oil refinery Ukrtatnafta in 2007. The arbitral tribunal constituted under 1976 UNCTIRAL Arbitration Rules awarded $112 million in damages following the decision that Ukraine had acted unlawfully.

The independent power project is notable for the use of an unconventional fuel, with the oil shale being mined, processed and converted to electrical power on site.

The transaction documents were signed over three days of meetings ending on September 18 and also included a ceremony in Rabat attended by Abdelilah Benkirane, prime minister of Morocco.
