Clifford Chance advised Software AG on strategic partnership with metaquark GmbH

Clifford Chance advised Software AG, Darmstadt, on the agreement relating to a strategic partnership with metaquark GmbH, Berlin. Through the partnership, Software AG will be able to develop and market mobile applications ("apps") from one single platform. Businesses can now use Software AG's MobileSuite, an integral component of the webMethods platform, to administer the entire life cycle of mobile applications from design and development through secure distribution to devices and end users from one App store to monitoring the operational IT infrastructure.

WAZ entrusts Linklaters with acquisition

Dusseldorf, 27 March 2013. Linklaters has advised the WAZ Media Group based in Essen, Germany on the acquisition of the shares in the Zeitungsverlag Westfalen GmbH & Co. KG (ZVW) previously held by Deutsche Druck- und Verlags-GmbH. This purchase of the 13.1% shareholding means WAZ now has full ownership of the regional daily newspaper “Westfälische Rundschau” which it already publishes.

Squire Sanders Acts for Summly in Sale to Yahoo

Global legal practice Squire Sanders has acted in the sale of mobile news app Summly to Yahoo. The innovative mobile app for browsing and consuming automatic summaries of the news was created by 17 year-old entrepreneur, computer programmer and designer Nick D’Aloisio in December 2010.

Teams from Squire Sanders’ corporate and tax practices in the US, UK and Hong Kong, led by partners Greg Gale, Peter Morley, and Nick Chan, have been involved in advising Summly since its initial investment and throughout the much-publicized deal.

Hogan Lovells Celebrates ECJ Referral for ZTE in Huawei Patent Battle

Hogan Lovells has succeeded in gaining a referral to ECJ on behalf of its client ZTE, following its long-running patent battle against telecoms operator Huawei.

This week the Düsseldorf Landgericht (Regional Court) referred a number of questions, regarding specific FRAND (Fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) licensing criteria, to the Court of Justice for the European Union on behalf of ZTE.

Herbert Smith Freehills advises Wolseley Private Equity and Caxton on the acquisition of Geon assets

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Blue Star Group Australia, jointly owned by Wolseley Private Equity and Caxton, on its acquisition of print assets from the GEON Group.

The transaction, which completed on Wednesday 13 March, involved the acquisition by Blue Star Group Australia of certain assets of GEON, which is presently under receivership. 

Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Peter Dunne led the acquisition team, supported by Jessica Selby, John Blake and Jennifer Lam. Brisbane Partner Peter Smith and Leyton Cronk also provided advice on the acquisition.

Field Fisher Waterhouse advises FFastFill on takeover

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP has advised FFastFill plc, a leading provider of "Software as a Service" to the global derivatives community, on the £106m recommended takeover by Pattington Limited, a member of the ION Trading Group.

Pattington currently owns a minority stake in FFastFill but is now set to take overall control of the company.  Field Fisher Waterhouse advised FFastFill on all aspects of the takeover.  Field Fisher Waterhouse Corporate partner Amerjit Kalirai led on the deal and was assisted by senior associate Guy Burman.

Fast work as Shoosmiths completes multi-million pound office sale

Shoosmiths real estate specialists have advised on the multi-million pound sale and leaseback of a client's multi-let freehold office building.

The national law firm completed the sale for Novell UK Limited, an Attachmate Group company.

Associate Simon Shoefield led a Shoosmiths real estate team that included solicitor Georgina Watt, and which provided employment advice through solicitor Jennifer Featherstone.

They had just 10 working days to complete the sale of 1 Arlington Square, Bracknell, in Berkshire.
