Shoosmiths helps Psycle gear up for City launch

A team of Shoosmiths legal specialists have provided advice to former CEO of Fitness First, Colin Waggett, for the launch of his new indoor cycling concept, Psycle London.

Shoosmiths' Angela Mildenhall and solicitor Sarah Waller (both real estate) led the team to help secure the first of a number of indoor cycling studios on Mortimer Street W1, in preparation for Psycle's official launch in February 2014.

Further expertise was provided by corporate specialist, solicitor Robert Pook.

Singapore: Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised HSBC Insurance (Singapore) Pte. Limited (HSBC Insurance (Singapore)), a wholly-owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc, on the offer made by AIA Singapore Private Limited (AIA Singapore) to the agents of HSBC Insurance (Singapore) to join AIA Singapore.

Field Fisher Waterhouse advises on Court of Appeal broadcasting agreement

Field Fisher Waterhouse has assisted the Ministry of Justice and HM Courts and Tribunal Service in the drafting and negotiation of the historic agreement to allow broadcasts from the Court of Appeal from 31st October 2013.

The agreement provides for a number of safeguards, including a time-delay system operated by a specialist video journalist, restrictions on filming and the use to which the footage may be put.

Clifford Chance advises Toga-Far East Orchard hospitality joint venture on Rendezvous Hotel management arrangements

Sydney: Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised the recently established joint venture between Australia's Toga Group and Singapore's Far East Orchard Limited on its provision of management and consultancy services to Rendezvous Hotels.

Under the arrangement, Toga Hotels will assume management or provide consultancy to 11 Rendezvous Hotels across Australia and New Zealand. The hotels are owned or leased by Far East Hospitality Holdings, a separate joint venture between Far East and The Straits Trading Company Limited.

Her Majesty’s Treasury - connection with its review of the case for an RBS 'bad bank'

Slaughter and May, working closely with Treasury Legal Advisers, advised Her Majesty’s Treasury in connection with its review, announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in June, of the case for transferring certain poorly performing and high risk assets of the Royal Bank of Scotland group (RBS) to a 'bad bank'.

The results of the review were announced on 1 November 2013 and will involve RBS creating an internal 'bad bank' to wind down its poorly performing and high risk assets, which will be owned and funded by RBS.

Eversheds gets Dartford Crossing deal flowing for Highways Agency

Global law firm Eversheds has advised the UK’s Highways Agency on the £367m contract for the implementation of a new free-flow charging system at M25 Dartford-Thurrock River Crossing.

New technology which utilises number-plate recognition technology will allow drivers to use the crossing without having to stop at the barriers to hand over payment. Road users will be able to pay through a variety of methods including telephone, text, online and at retail outlets. Pre-paid accounts which qualify for discounted journeys will also be available.
