Clifford Chance advises EIB on its first equity investment in the Czech Republic

Lawyers of Clifford Chance's Prague office have advised European Investment Bank (EIB) on its up to EUR 50m equity investment into Inven Capital, an internally managed, qualified-investor, Czech SICAV fund, fully-owned by the regional energy group CEZ, to support the growth of clean energy and smart technology SMEs and midcaps.

The Africa team of CMS Francis Lefebvre Avocats advised the NSIA group, a major player in insurance in Sub-Saharan Africa (around 20 life and non-life subsidiaries in more than a dozen African countries) as well as in banking (two banking subsidiaries in Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea), on the takeover of Diamond Bank SA, the Beninese banking subsidiary of the Nigerian Diamond Bank Plc group and its three banks in Senegal, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire (with total assets of more than €600 million).

King & Spalding has recruited senior World Trade Organization (WTO) litigator Rambod Behboodi as a partner in its Geneva office.

Behboodi has more than 20 years of experience working in a number of different litigation, diplomatic, legal advisory and policy and executive positions. He joins the firm’s International Trade Practice.

PARTNER MOVES - Prominent Insurance Lawyer Damon Vocke Joining Duane Morris

Former General Re Corporation President and General Counsel Damon Vocke is joining the Duane Morris insurance practice, the firm announced today. Vocke had most recently headed his own firm, the Vocke Law Group, with locations in New York, Chicago and Stamford, Connecticut. Along with partner Ronald Lepinskas and special counsel Mark Holton from the Vocke firm, he joins a Duane Morris insurance industry practice group that comprises over 100 lawyers in offices across the firm. Vocke will be working with the group nationally and particularly in New York.

The international law firm BEITEN BURKHARDT intensifies its focus on the real estate sector at its Frankfurt office: For 2018 Jens Ullrich Müller and Matthias Ohmer changed to BEITEN BURKHARDT from HauckSchuchardt, and Dr Claudia-Maria Wirth joined from Gleiss Lutz. Mr Müller and Mr Ohmer are both entering as equity partners, each bringing with them their teams which includes two salary partners. Dr Wirth will also strengthen the Frankfurt office as salary partner.

Mishcon de Reya has today announced the appointment of Contentious Regulatory Partner, Guy Wilkes, who joins the firm's Finance & Banking group from Mayer Brown.

Guy worked at Allen & Overy and Osborne Clarke before joining the FCA in 2009, where he was involved in some of the FCA and PRA's highest profile investigations into both individuals and institutions. He left the FCA in 2016 to join Mayer Brown as a Contentious Regulatory Partner. His appointment reflects Mishcon de Reya's commitment to developing its Regulatory practice.
