Global law firm Baker McKenzie announced that Usman Sheikh, one of the top fintech lawyers in Canada, and Michael Garellek, a leading financial regulatory lawyer, have joined as Partners in the Firm's Toronto office. They bring significant securities, banking and financial services regulatory and litigation experience, strengthening Baker McKenzie's established transactional team in Canada and enhancing the Firm's global fintech capabilities.

Ruomu Li has joined Cooley’s Shanghai office as a partner in the firm’s business department, where she will focus on mergers & acquisitions and private equity transactions with an emphasis on the technology and life sciences industries. Li arrives from Morrison & Foerster, where she served as a partner in the M&A, private equity investments and buyouts practices.

Greenberg Traurig, LLP expanded its State and Local Tax (SALT) and Government Law & Policy Practices with the addition of Nikki E. Dobay as shareholder in the Portland, Oregon, and Sacramento offices. Dobay will be a technical resource to clients, advising on SALT issues that include state tax policy work, evaluating transactions, and litigating tax disputes.

Dr. Detlef Raasch will join Heuking as Salaried Partner effective January 1, 2023, reinforcing the Patent Law team led by Dr. Anton Horn in Düsseldorf. The addition of the new team member is another sign of the consistently pursued expansion of the Patent Law practice.

International law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has strengthened its UK-wide restructuring and insolvency practice with the appointment of Bristol-based partner Alan Bennett.

Joining from Ashfords, where he headed up the restructuring and insolvency practice, Alan is a recognised leader in his field advising on high-value contentious and non-contentious matters for a wide range of clients including insolvency practitioners, directors, lenders and private clients. He also specialises in cross-border insolvency work particularly in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Fried Frank announced that Andrew Rearick will join the firm as a partner in the M&A and Private Equity Practice, based in London. He will join Fried Frank from Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he currently serves as an international counsel in the private equity practice.

The Belfast office of DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has further expanded, through several senior lateral hire appointments to the commercial team, including three partners, a new director and two senior associates.

In the last six months, DWF has also recruited 26 legal professionals to its Belfast office, with positions including support staff, paralegals, trainee solicitors, newly qualified and senior solicitors. The latest recruitment drive takes DWF’s total workforce in Northern Ireland to 120.

Eversheds Sutherland has announced a boost to its Netherlands team with the appointment of litigation specialist Marie-Hélène Berghuijs. Marie-Hélène, who has a broad background in corporate and commercial litigation, will be joining current litigation lead partner Yuri Wehrmeijer in Amsterdam, in the new year, to significantly develop the Dutch office’s disputes capability.
