Ashurst advises Tullow Oil on successful proceedings in Court of Appeal

Ashurst advised Tullow Oil plc and its Ugandan subsidiary, Tullow Uganda Limited, in successfully defending appeal proceedings in the Court of Appeal. The appeal by Heritage Oil and Gas Ltd and Heritage Oil Plc ('Heritage') sought to overturn the decision of the High Court regarding Tullow's indemnity claims against Heritage Oil concerning a capital gains tax payment that Tullow had made on Heritage's behalf to the Uganda Revenue Authority.

Clifford Chance advises Salamander Energy on its US$280 million disposal of a 40% stake in the Greater Bualuang Area

Salamander Energy plc ("Salamander") announced the signing of a definitive share sale and purchase agreement with SONA Petroleum Berhard for the US$280 million disposal of an effective 40% working interest in the B8/38 concession containing the Bualuang oil field and the surrounding G4/50 concession, both located in the Gulf of Thailand. The transaction is to be effected via a share sale to SONA of an interest in Salamander Energy Bualuang Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Salamander group, which holds a 60% interest in the B8/38 concession.

Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co's Energy team has advised longstanding client Carron Energy, part of Welsh Power Group, on its disposal of three power response businesses.

Carron Energy sold the businesses - Darent Power Limited, Leven Power Limited and Rhymney Power Limited - to Alkane Energy plc for £12 million.

Director and corporate energy sector specialist Gareth Baker led a cross-firm team through the technically challenging sale.

CMS Hasche Sigle advises EnBW on investments by regional energy companies in its wind farm portfolio

Twelve regional energy companies from Baden-Württemberg yesterday signed investment agreements in onshore wind farms belonging to EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. The wind power plants have a total output of 156 megawatts and are spread across 17 sites in Germany. The regional companies – which comprise eleven municipal utility companies and one regional energy service provider – have jointly acquired a share of around 20 per cent in the wind farm portfolio. There are plans for investment by additional partners.

Norton Rose Fulbright’s Pittsburgh-Southpointe office secures appellate victory for SWEPI

The Pittsburgh-Southpointe office assisted SWEPI LP in gaining the Third Circuit's affirmation of a grant of a motion to dismiss in connection with a claim that an oil and gas lease had expired.

The lessor claimed that the vertical wells drilled to the Marcellus Shale formation and then shut-in—but not fraced or producing or, allegedly, not capable of producing without further work—did not qualify for shut-in payments under the lease to perpetuate the lease beyond the primary term.

Eversheds advises Dwr Cymru Welsh Water on £1.5 billion capital investment programme

Eversheds has advised Dwr Cymru Welsh Water on its procurement of alliance agreements with partners appointed to deliver its £1.5 billion capital investment programme for 2015 to 2020.

The partners will work closely with Welsh Water throughout the investment period, known as Asset Management Plan 6 (AMP6), to deliver cost effective and sustainable outcomes that will benefit customers and the environment. As part of its AMP6 regulatory funding cycle Welsh Water will invest in improvements to its clean water and sewerage networks and treatment works.

Burges Salmon secures UK seabed zone rights for Wave Hub and Minesto

The Renewable Energy team from Burges Salmon has assisted in securing seabed rights for a total of four wave and tidal energy zones for its clients Minesto and Wave Hub in a leasing process managed by The Crown Estate.

Swedish marine energy technology company Minesto has acquired the rights to a tidal stream project site at Holyhead Deep, off the Welsh coast.

Wave Hub has acquired the rights to manage and sublease parts of three wave and tidal current demonstration zones off the coast of North Cornwall, North Devon and South Pembrokeshire.
