PARTNER MOVES - Energy Tax Lawyer Sam Kamyans Joins Akin Gump in Washington, D.C.

Akin Gump announced that Sam Kamyans has joined the firm as a partner in its global project finance practice in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kamyans is an experienced energy tax lawyer who counsels independent power providers and investors on structuring the tax aspects of power projects, including renewable energy deals. He comes to Akin Gump from Baker McKenzie where he was a partner in its tax group.

PARTNER MOVES - Debt Finance Partner Michael Gustafson Joins Akin Gump in London

Akin Gump is pleased to announce that Michael Gustafson has joined the firm as a finance partner in its London office. Mr. Gustafson joins from Pricoa Private Capital―the private debt investment arm of Prudential Financial Inc.―where he served as deputy chief legal officer, Europe, based in London.

Mr. Gustafson focuses on sophisticated debt finance work, including institutional private placement transactions, direct lending and financial restructurings.

PARTNER MOVES - Weightmans’ new recruits super-charge energy and utilities team

National law firm Weightmans has welcomed two new partners to its national energy and utilities sector as the firm galvanises its energy offering.

Levent Gurdenli and Jim Jordan both have extensive experience in the energy sector, joining the national energy and utilities sector headed up by Partner Simon Colvin. They will be based in Weightmans’ London office but will work with clients across the UK.

Pete has a broad aviation finance practice, with particular expertise in the lessor and debt capital markets sectors. This follows the recent hire of international arbitration partner, Celine Abi Habib Kanakri into our Dubai office from Baker McKenzie Habib Al Mulla which bolstered our international arbitration capabilities.

National law firm Irwin Mitchell is expanding its national real estate practice with the appointment of three senior hires. The appointments take Irwin Mitchell’s National Real Estate practice to 33 partners and 90 qualified lawyers.

In London, Paul Henson is joining as a partner in Irwin Mitchell’s Real Estate Disputes Team and will be leading the firm’s Real Estates Disputes practice in London. Paul was previously a partner at Collyer Bristow.

PARTNER MOVES - DAC Beachcroft acquires two partner-led team in Dublin

International law firm DAC Beachcroft has bolstered its Dublin office through the hire of a two female partner-led team.

Corporate partner, Sharon McCaffrey, and competition law partner, Joanne Finn, joined the firm in September. They also bring with them a team of two senior associates, one associate and a secretary.

The appointments follow the promotion of Niamh McKeever to partner in May this year, to head up the firm’s healthcare group which provides a full service in the area of medical malpractice in Ireland.
