Herbert Smith Freehills advises CBA on A$1.6 billion acquisition of PEXA

Herbert Smith Freehills has advised the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in relation to its successful consortium bid to acquire 100% of Property Exchange Australia Limited (PEXA). The transaction, which values PEXA at approximately A$1.6 billion, prevailed over PEXA’s anticipated initial public offering (IPO).

CBA is joined in the successful consortium by existing PEXA co-shareholder Link Group and Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners (MSI).

PARTNER MOVES - Mayer Brown expands Banking & Finance practice with addition of partner Dasha Sobornova in London

London — Mayer Brown has announced that Dasha Sobornova has joined the firm's Banking & Finance practice in London as a partner. Her appointment enhances the firm's structured finance team and builds on its collateralised loan obligation (CLO) offering in London.

Dasha, who was previously at Paul Hastings, advises arrangers, investment managers, issuers and corporate service providers on a range of structured finance work, with a particular focus on CLO transactions.

PARTNER MOVES - New head of financial services at WBD

WBD has appointed Jonny Williams as a partner and head of the firm's national financial services team.

Jonny, who will be based across both WBD's London and Edinburgh offices, joins from Lloyds Banking Group where since 2012, he has held several Leadership roles, and latterly was Head of Legal, Business and Specialist Banking. Leading a team of 21, Jonny also advised on a wide range of product and lending issues including regulatory matters and regularly acted as deputy to the General Counsel for Retail.
