European law firm Fieldfisher has made two key hires in its real estate finance practice.

Iain Thomas and Christian Francis both join Fieldfisher as partners, further strengthening the firm's increasingly recognised real estate finance team.

Iain and Christian come to Fieldfisher from law firm DWF, where they were head of real estate finance and a partner in the corporate and banking team, respectively.

CMS advises automotive supplier MAHLE on acquisition of transmission specialist ZG-Zahnräder und Getriebe

Stuttgart – Automotive supplier MAHLE has acquired Munich-based transmission specialist ZG-Zahnräder und Getriebe GmbH. MAHLE will use the acquisition to expand its expertise in complete powertrains, with transmissions being a key component. The move gives the Stuttgart-based group access to additional development expertise in this field. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Osborne Clarke advises N26 on $300m series D financing round

Osborne Clarke has advised N26 GmbH on the closing of its series D $300 million financing round. The financing round was led by venture capital and private equity firm Insight Venture Partners valuing N26 at $2.7bn. The round also includes participation from GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, Allianz insurance and German venture capital firm Earlybird Venture.

Osborne Clarke in funding to Antirion by BNP Paribas for the purchase of two real estate complexes in Rome

Osborne Clarke advised Antirion SGR S.p.A., an independent asset management company  for the closed-end reserved multi-compartment alternative real estate mutual fund “Fondo Immobiliare Antirion Global” – Comparto Core”,  in the context of a financing for an overall amount of  approx. Euro 179 million provided by BNP Paribas – Italian branch, acting as lender, agent and mandated lead arranger. BNP Paribas was advised by Legance – Avvocati Associati.

Pinsent Masons advises Hines on its Bond Street property acquisition

International law firm Pinsent Masons has advised US investor Hines European Value Fund (HEVF) on the £40 million plus real estate acquisition of 354-358 Oxford Street opposite London's Bond Street tube station from London Underground.

The deal, which is the first big ticket property transaction of 2019 and HEVF's first London acquisition, will see the company convert the site into a mixed residential and retail scheme with an estimated GDV of approximately £70 million.

Shoosmiths advises client whg on multi-million pound West Midlands housing development

The Birmingham-based real estate team at UK law firm Shoosmiths has advised its long-standing client whg on its multi-million pound 400-home development in Walsall.

The project, which will be delivered alongside project partner Keepmoat Homes, will consist of 407 homes in the Goscote area of Walsall. 102 of these homes will be for social rent with a further 24 for affordable rent. Work is expected to start later this year.

Travers Smith advises on the acquisition of West Midland Safari Park

Travers Smith LLP and French law firm De Pardieu Brocas Maffei have advised Looping Group on its acquisition of 100% of West Midland Safari Park Limited, which operates West Midland Safari Park (WMSP).

WMSP, opened in 1973, is located near Birmingham and is one of the leading safari park attractions in the UK as well as being a family favourite across the region. The park features a four mile safari drive-through as well as a theme park and other attractions.  WMSP welcomed around 700,000 visitors in 2018, with revenues of c. £17m.
