Alectra Utilities merges with Guelph Hydro Electric Systems, creating largest municipally-owned electric utility in Canada

On Jan. 1, 2019, Alectra Utilities Corporation and Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc. completed the merger of their two electricity distribution utilities.

Alectra  is now the largest municipally-owned electric utility in Canada  by customer base, serving more than one million homes and businesses in Ontario's Greater Golden Horseshoe area.

Clifford Chance advised Samsung Life on the sale of 30 Gresham Street

Clifford Chance has advised Samsung Life, the largest insurance company in South Korea, on its sale of 30 Gresham Street for a price in excess of £400m to the joint venture of two Hong Kong based developers, Wing Tai Properties and Manhattan Garments. The c.400,000+ square feet prime commercial property in the City of London, which is comprised of office and retail space, is the London headquarters of Commerzbank and European headquarters of Investec.

WFW advises on financing of 50 MW Uruguayan wind park

Watson Farley & Williams (“WFW”) advised Banco Santander, S.A. and Banco Santander S.A. (Uruguay) on the project financing of the 50MW “Estrallada” wind park, in Cerro Largo, Uruguay, operational since 2015. The deal closed on 14 December 2018.

Leading energy company Atlantica Yield purchased the project, simultaneously to the project financing, from Enel Green Power. Atlantic Yield now has a Uruguayan wind portfolio of 150 MW.

Blackstone Refinances Germany’s Largest Office Building

Simpson Thacher represented Blackstone in its EUR 500 million refinancing of The Squaire office building and adjacent multi-storey car parking, in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Squaire is the largest office building in Germany and directly connected to Frankfurt Airport. Tenants include (amongst others) Hilton hotels, KPMG and Lufthansa. The Squaire parking is a multi-storey car park with over 2,000 spaces.

The Simpson Thacher team who acted on the refinancing included Tom Lloyd, Luke Murphy, Andrea Haughton and Alexandre Rakotovao (Real Estate).

Osborne Clarke advises in loan to Serenissima

Osborne Clarke advised Unicredit S.p.A. as lender, arranger and agent, in the granting of loan to the “URANIA” closed-end real estate fund which acted through SERENISSIMA SGR S.p.A., assisted in turn by DLA Piper.

The loan was provided  to finance the purchase and/or development of a real estate portfolio consisting of three properties for commercial sues, two of which are locate in central Italy and the third in southern Italy.
