PARTNER MOVES - Accomplished Antitrust Litigator Joins Freshfields from the Department of Justice

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP (“Freshfields”) has announced that Andrew (“Andy”) J. Ewalt, former Counsel to the Director of Litigation of the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice (“DOJ”), has joined as a partner in the firm’s global antitrust litigation practice. Andy’s appointment will bolster the firm’s US antitrust litigation offering in Washington, DC and follows the arrival of leading US antitrust litigator Eric Mahr from the DOJ in February of this year.

Mayer Brown advises Sumitomo Metal Mining on the acquisition of an interest in Compañia Minera Teck Quebrada Blanca S.A. for $1.2 billion

London — Mayer Brown has advised Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (acting in a consortium with its partner, Sumitomo Corporation) on the acquisition of a 30 percent indirect interest in Compañia Minera Teck Quebrada Blanca S.A., which owns the Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 (QB2) project, from Teck Resources Limited for $1.2 billion.

The QB2 project is the second phase of the Quebrada Blanca copper mine in Chile.

We advised EQT Fund Management S.à r.l. on regulatory and legal aspects of the setting up, structuring and closing of its second European direct lending fund, EQT Mid-Market Credit II, based in Luxembourg, focusing primarily on providing financing to mid-market companies that have a significant proportion of their earnings, revenues, operations or assets located in Europe.

We also assisted EQT on the setting-up of several entities which are part of the investment platform, as well as co-investment vehicles investing alongside MMCII.

McCann FitzGerald advises Greencoat Renewables in €88m Deal for Two Windfarms

We advised Greencoat Renewables on its acquisition of two wind farms from Blackrock in a transaction valued at €88 million.

Greencoat has grown its portfolio almost three-fold over the past 12 months. Other transactions we have advised on this year include the acquisition of a 48.3MW wind farm in Co.Cork in October for €61.3 million, the acquisition of Knaocknalour wind farm in September for €10.9m, the acquisition of Lisdowney in February, the acquisition of Dromadda More in April and on its €11m share placing in August.

Ashurst advises GA Group on acquisition of boutique hotel in Sydney

International law firm Ashurst has advised Crystalbrook Collection Hotels and Resorts (Crystalbrook), the leisure and accommodation arm of GA Group Australia, on the acquisition of the Little Albion boutique hotel in Sydney's Surry Hills suburb.

The Little Albion boutique hotel is one of Australia’s newest boutique hotels, developed and designed by Paul Fischmann, founder and owner of 8Hotels. The 35-room hotel is in a heritage building constructed in 1903 as a school convent which has been transformed into a modern guest house, merging old and new.

Clifford Chance has advised Warburg-HIH Invest Real Estate on the sale of an office property with a total lettable area of around 6,750 m². The property is located in Bad Homburg near Frankfurt. The purchaser is Union Investment. The parties have agreed not to disclose any details of the purchase price.

The single-tenant building was completed in 2014 and initially acquired on behalf of a pan-European special AIF. The lease with IT provider Dimension Data runs until 2024.

DLA Piper has advised Halmtorvet 29 A/S on the sale of the new Scandic Hotel in the Copenhagen Meatpacking District

The property company Halmtorvet 29 A/S, which is engaged in the investment and development of residential and commercial properties, has sold the new Scandic Hotel situated in the Copenhagen Meatpacking District to Norwegian KLP Eiendom AS.

The transaction value was approx. DKK 610,000,000.

Scandic Hotel has a gross floor area including basement of approx. 23,000 square metres and has 370 rooms, a restaurant/bar, conference centre, fitness facilities, etc.
