PARTNER MOVES - Eversheds Sutherland appoints Head of Real Estate Tax

Eversheds Sutherland has further strengthened its Tax Practice with the appointment of Partner Paul Beausang as Head of Real Estate Tax. Paul will work alongside David Jervis, Global Co-Head of Tax and Cathryn Vanderspar, Head of London Tax in the real estate tax arena.

Paul joins Eversheds Sutherland this week from Morgan Lewis & Bockius, having previously been London Head of Tax at K&L Gates.

PARTNER MOVES - Raúl Fernández joins Mayer Brown as partner in Mexico City

Mayer Brown has announced that Raúl Fernández-Briseño, a leading transactional lawyer with deep experience in infrastructure, M&A, finance and restructuring transactions, has joined the firm as a partner in Mexico City, together with two associates. Mr. Fernández and his team join from the Mexico City office of White & Case.

PARTNER MOVES - Pillsbury Expands State and Local Tax Practice with 13-Lawyer, Nationwide Team

In a move that further strengthens one of the premier State & Local Tax (SALT) practices in the United States, a team led by two of the country’s leading SALT practitioners—Carley Roberts and Marc Simonetti—have joined Pillsbury. The 13-lawyer group comes to the firm from Eversheds Sutherland to focus on tax litigation, consulting, planning and policy. Roberts will reside in the firm’s Sacramento office, while Simonetti will be based in New York.

DLA Piper advises StackPath on its acquisition of Server Density

DLA Piper has advised StackPath, a leading secure edge services platform provider headquartered in Dallas, TX, on its cross-border acquisition of Server Density. StackPath is an investee company of Abry Partners, a private equity firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

The DLA Piper team included Southeast US Managing Partner Joe Alexander (Miami) and Atlanta-based partner Brian Gordon and was led by London-based partner Anu Balasubramanian and senior associate Simon Wright, with assistance from senior associate Nick Hinton and associate Suzanne Doogan.

Freshfields advises LG Electronics and LG Corporation on its acquisition of Austria based ZKW group

The international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advised one of the big South Korean "chaebol" conglomerates LG Electronics and LG Corporation on its acquisition of Austria based ZKW group for EUR 1.1bn (equity value).

The mandate was accompanied by international sites in Vienna, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Brussels and Beijing. The advisory team – under the lead of Freshfields partner Dr. Konrad Gröller (Vienna) and Dr. Heiner Braun (Frankfurt) – includes around 40 lawyers.

Herbert Smith Freehills advises China's State Grid on US$2.5 billion issue of dual currency notes

Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has advised China's State Grid Corporation, the world's largest utility and power grid corporation, on a dual-currency four-tranche issue of notes that raised US$2.5 billion.

The USD notes are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the EUR notes are listed on Euronext Dublin.

Hill Dickinson corporate team acts for management of JLA on its sale from Hg to Cinven

Leading commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has acted for the management team of major servicing solutions provider JLA on its sale from Hg, the manager of HgCapital Trust, to international private equity house Cinven.

JLA, headquartered in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, was founded in 1973 and currently works with more than 25,000 SME customers. It provides services in the commercial laundry, catering, heating and fire safety markets, and employs 900 staff, including around 300 engineers.
