PARTNER MOVES - HERBERT SMITH FREEHILLS BOOSTS AUSTRALIAN TECHNOLOGY PRACTICE WITH SENIOR APPOINTMENT

Herbert Smith Freehills has appointed Peter Jones as a partner in its Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice in Sydney. Peter, who joins the firm from DLA Piper, will commence his new role in early June 2019.

Peter is currently the head of DLA Piper’s Tech Sector in Australia, is the Sydney Location Head of its Intellectual Property and Technology Group, and has regional responsibility for data protection, cyber resilience and information risks.

The London office of Gateley Plc, the legal business of law-led professional services group Gateley, has launched a Private Wealth offering in the city with the appointment of partners Richard Jordan and Mark Pearce and continues to grow its Corporate client team with the appointment of partner Oliver Harker.

Richard Jordan joins Gateley Plc from Irwin Mitchell, where he was head of the London Private Client team.  Richard has over 20 years of experience in providing tailored tax and succession advice to HNW Private Clients, Families and Family Offices.

PARTNER MOVES - DWF expands banking and finance practice with partner appointment

Global legal business DWF has announced the appointment of Brendan Slack as a partner in the expanding banking and finance group.

Brendan joins the business from Dentons, and he specialises in advising lenders, borrowers and private equity sponsors. His practice covers local, UK and international real estate finance (including real estate investment and development senior and mezzanine finance deals), as well as asset-backed and energy & infrastructure transactions including the financing of data centres, capacity market and smart meter assets.

International law firm Bird & Bird has welcomed Hartmut Hörner as a partner in the commercial practice group of the Hamburg office with a sector focus on Tech & Comms, Financial Services and Life Sciences.

Hartmut joins from one of the Big4 in Switzerland where he served as General Counsel and was particularly involved as a partner in the areas of Consulting Quality & Risk Management, as well as local and international client contracting.  Prior to this, Hartmut held positions at an international management consultancy and another Big4 Firm.

Trowers & Hamlins advises Apache Capital on £160m student accommodation sale

Top 40 law firm Trowers & Hamlins has advised existing client Apache Capital Partners on the sale of its asset for over £160m, in Shoreditch, London.

A joint venture comprising of Greystar Real Estate Partners, the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) and Allianz Real Estate has contracted to buy Paul St. East, a 458-bedroom purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Shoreditch for over £160 million.

Allen & Overy advises syndicate of banks on KfW's successful issue of EUR 5 bn bond

Allen & Overy has advised a syndicate of banks on the successful issue of a EUR 5 bn bond (ISIN: DE000A2LQSS1) by KfW. The syndicate comprised BNP Paribas, J.P. Morgan Securities plc and TD Securities. TD Securities also acted as technical lead.

The bond with an interest rate of 0.00 per cent. and a term of three years has been admitted for trading in the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.  The issue met with high demand from investors both in Germany and abroad and was thus significantly oversubscribed.

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner Advises on Sale of Grange Hotels in London for Circa GBP 1 billion

International law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) has successfully advised Grange Hotels on the sale of four of its high-end, luxury hotels: Grange St Paul's EC4, Grange Tower Bridge E1, Grange City EC3 and Grange Holborn WC1. The portfolio of properties was sold to Queensgate Investments for circa GBP 1 billion. This is one of the largest UK hotel deals on record.
